Preparation and Properties of Porous Silicon Carbide Ceramic by Gelcasting |

Abstract: |
Porous silicon carbide(SiC) ceramics used for hot gas purification were prepared from SiC particle by an in-situ reaction, the ceramic green body was fabricated by gelcasting. This work mainly investigated the influences of monomer content and sintering procedure on the performance of porous SiC ceramic. The results indicate that the SiC particles dispersed stably in the slurry with suitable monomer content. The oxidation degree of SiC is raised with the sintering temperature and holding time increasing. The XRD analysis reveals the mullite is formed when the temperature reaches to 1550 oC which could obviously improve the flexural strength. Porous SiC ceramics with good properties can be prepared by gelcasting when sintered at 1550 oC for 4 h. The flexural strength, porosity, average pore size, and N2 permeability of the porous ceramics are about 20.4 MPa, 37%, 23 μm and of 2.01×10-12 m2, respectively. |
