Abstract: |
Membrane fouling is a major obstacle that hinders faster commercialization of MBR (Membrane Bio-Reactor). EPS (Extracellular Polymeric Substance) is currently considered as the major cause of membrane fouling in MBR and its various components are influential on membrane fouling. The types of EPS, spatial structures, the impact on the properties of activated sludge and the relationship between EPS and membrane fouling, the extracting and analyzing methods were reviewed, which may provide valuable information for process optimization and fouling in MBR. |
