Effect of graphene oxide modification on the pure water permeation flux of Al2O3 microfiltration membrane with different pore size

Abstract:
 Graphene oxide was prepared with the modified Hummers method. Al2O3 microfiltration membranes with different pore size were modified with the obtained graphene oxide. The effect of the modification process on the microstructure of graphene oxide coating and the pure water permeation flux of Al2O3 microfiltration membrane was investigated. The results show graphene oxide coating is smooth and uniform, and a thickness of ~5 nm with the twice modification. At the same time, compared to the original membrane, the pure water permeation flux of the smaller pore size (~ 175 nm) modified Al2O3 microfiltration membrane is increased by 35.7%. While the pure water permeation flux of the larger pore size (~ 370 nm) modified Al2O3 microfiltration membrane has no significant increase.
