Abstract: In order to solve the problem of mutual restriction between proton conductivity and stability of proton exchange membrane, a strong basic Tröger's Base polyimide (PI-TB) was designed and blended with sulfonated poly(ether ether ketone) (SPEEK) to prepare a composite proton exchange membrane in this paper. Chemical structure, thermal stability and mechanical strength of the membranes were characterized by FT-IR, TGA, mechanical strength testing machine. Besides, the water uptake, swelling ratio, ion exchange capacity and proton conductivity of the membrane were tested. The electrostatic and hydrogen bonding interactions between PI-TB and SPEEK enhance the mechanical strength and structural stability of the membrane. When the blending amount of PI-TB was 20 %, the proton conductivity of the composite membrane (PS-20) was 102 mS/cm (60oC, 100% RH); the tensile strength of PS-20 membrane was 93.13MPa, 2.4 times that of the SPEEK membrane; at 60% RH, the proton conductivity of PS-20 was 6.78mS/cm, 4.6 times as high as that of the SPEEK membrane. |
