Abstract: |
|
In recent years, covalent organic framework (COF) membranes prepared by interfacial polymerization have been widely applied to organic solvent nanofiltration, molecular sieving and other separation processes. Elucidating the formation mechanisms and kinetics is crucial for tailoring the microstructures and optimizing the separation performance. This review summarizes recent progress in COF membranes from two aspects: liquid-liquid interfacial polymerization strategies and the underlying membrane-formation mechanisms. Particular emphasis is on how the monomer configuration, solvent systems, interfacial activation strategies and interfacial tension regulation affect the structure and performance of COF membranes, with the aim of clarifying the formation pathways of COF membranes prepared at liquid-liquid interfaces. This review is concluded by discussing the current bottlenecks in mechanistic studies and proposing future research directions to guide the rational design and optimization of COF membranes and to broaden their application scope. |
